Buying an Ultrasonic Cleaner: The Independent Buying Guide
Ultrasonic cleaners vary widely in size, power and suitability for eyewear. This guide breaks down the key buying criteria – deliberately brand-agnostic, without favouring any manufacturer.
What actually matters when buying
Tank size: the complete pair of glasses (including temples) must be able to lie fully submerged without being bent or wedged in.
Frequency: consumer devices for glasses/jewellery typically operate in the range of roughly 40,000–48,000 Hz – fine enough for sensitive surfaces without damaging them.
Tank material: stainless steel is more durable and hygienic than plastic tanks, which can scratch and discolour over time.
Timer function: enables reproducible cleaning times instead of guessing by feel.
What a good device does NOT need
High power (wattage) matters less for glasses/jewellery than for industrial parts cleaning – the right frequency and tank size count for more here than raw wattage.
